Galata Tower and the stories around it
From a Genoese trading settlement to one of the city's most photographed viewpoints.

Galata Tower is one of Istanbul's defining silhouettes, standing above a neighbourhood shaped by trade, migration and changing city life.
More than a viewpoint
The tower is a useful orientation point, but the streets around it tell the fuller story. Walk downhill toward Karaköy, or uphill into Beyoğlu, to see how the area connects different parts of the city.
Plan around the crowds
The view is popular, especially near sunset. Book or check current entry guidance in advance, then leave time for the surrounding lanes instead of treating the tower as a quick stop.
